The draw for the first round of the Perth Masters has taken place, and has thrown up some mouth watering ties. The standout match is a repeat of a game we saw in Sydney, as world number one Michael van Gerwen will take on home favourite Kyle Anderson. The pair met in the quarter-final of the Sydney Masters and served up a real treat. Michael won the tie 10-6 in a real roof raiser, that again showed that it’s surely only a matter of time till he breaks the PDC top 16.
There is also another repeat from Sydney as Phil Taylor will play Corey Cadby. The pair were drawn against each other only last week. Phil would beat the young Aussie 6-3 on the night, but Corey showed that he is going to be a force in world darts. Taylor will be looking to make it back to back World Series victories , following his triumph in the Sydney Masters. Five times champion of the world Raymond van Barneveld would have been hoping for an easier first round tie, Barney will play Simon Whitlock in the first round. Barneveld hasn’t been in the best of form this year, and will be looking for a catalyst to stop his decline in form. This game could go one of two ways, either help the great Dutchman or heap more misery on him with yet another first round exit.
James Wade will be looking to put his disappointing Sydney Masters behind him here in Perth. Wade lost in the first round, from the brink of victory last week so will be hoping to put that right here. Overall Wade has had a brilliant World Series, so I think last week was just a blip and he will bounce back here. Adrian Lewis will be looking for a performance here, after a the double world champion has been way below his brilliant best. Gary Anderson, Dave Chisnall and Peter Wright on paper all have straightforward first round games.
