Michael van Gerwen with the World MatchplayPDC

More Records For Van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen continued to set records in the PDC. After back to back wins at the World Matchplay and the European Darts Open, van Gerwen is the first player to pass 1.25 million in prize money in the PDC order of merit. Van Gerwen has continued to accelerate away from the rest of the chasing pack. The rise of the Dutch superstar over the last four years has been nothing short of sensational, as he has illuminated the rest of darting world.

In the past two weeks’, van Gerwen has pocketed £125,000 for his victories in Blackpool and Dusseldorf. World champion Gary Anderson is currently the world number two, but trails van Gerwen by £410,250. It’s hard to see anyone catching van Gerwen anytime soon. Since the PDC changed their order of merit to a money based system in 2007, Phil Taylor is the only other player to pass the 1 million pounds mark.
