The Shanghai Masters takes place this weekend as part of the PDC World Series. The top stars will again do battle after a thrilling Auckland Masters, where World Champion Gary Anderson followed up his win in Dubai. The top 5 seeds have all looked in fantastic form so far. The world number one Michael van Gerwen will be looking to end a baron run for him, as he’s not won any of the last three tournaments. MvG was beaten by James Wade in Auckland, despite averaging 107. Wade played some of the best darts we have seen in a few years last weekend, and will be looking for a repeat here in China. Adrian Lewis beat Phil Taylor in Auckland, as he looks to get back to his best after having a tough start to the year.
All the players will be looking to have a good weekend here as they look to find their top form with the World Matchplay only three weeks away. Phil Taylor will be looking to win his first TV major since 2014, when he won the World Matchplay. MvG won at Blackpool last years and will be looking to retain his crown at the Winter Gardens. World Champion Anderson has never won the World Matchplay and would love to add the title to his two World Championships and two Premier League crowns. James Wade has also won at Blackpool, the Matchplay was the first of his seven PDC majors that he has won so far. This could be the greatest Matchplay we have seen, with so many of the PDC order Of Merit all playing so well. The unseeded players will be looking to force their way into the top 16.
