The draw for the first round of the Sydney Masters has been completed, and Phil Taylor has been handed the toughest test as he looks for his fourth consecutive Sydney Masters title. Taylor has been drawn against the hottest property in Australian darts, as he will face the DPA number one ranked Corey Cadby. Taylor is yet to lose a match in Sydney, but this will be his toughest test to date, as Cadby has won six ranking events in Australia so far this year hitting 100+ averages along the way. Cadby told PDC.tv “It’s really exciting for me, Phil’s a legend, and it will be great to play him, and I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got. To be playing in this tournament’s a huge opportunity for me and I can’t wait.”
World number one Michael van Gerwen will play Cody Harris in the first round, as he will be looking to add to his impressive tally of wins on tour this year. Gary Anderson has already won 3 of the 4 World Series events so far in 2016, as he looks to add the Sydney Masters to his collection. Anderson will face David Platt in his first game; Platt has overcome a life-threatening health scare to play in the event.
James Wade has also been in great form during this year’s World Series, having beating MvG, Anderson and Taylor at some point across the four events. Wade will play Rhys Mathewson in the first round.
